Description

Offered is one of the most ornate and impressive trophies we've ever had the privilege of presenting at auction. Measuring a hearty 21-3/4 inches tall with a diameter of 11 inches at top, the trophy commemorates pitcher Dick Rudolph's championship with the Boston Braves during the 1914 season. Rudolph was born in New York City and attended Fordham University in the Bronx, which explains the extreme admiration his neighbors and friends had for a "hometown boy" winning the most prestigious championship. As such, they commissioned the trophy for Rudolph with his engraved image in the center and the words "Presented to Dick Rudolph of the Boston Braves World's Champions 1914 By His Bronx Friends and Admirers Oct. 28, 1914" neatly engraved surrounding the central image. The trophy is exceptionally sturdy and solidly constructed, with a high level of detail in the engraved front. It remains in outstanding condition, with scattered tarnishing throughout as expected with a piece of its age. This is an extremely rare and high-quality piece dating to the early days of 20th century baseball. It would be at home in even the most advanced figural or Boston Braves collection.

It should be noted that Rudolph won Game 1 and Game 4 (the Series-clinching game of a convincing sweep). The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
