Exceptionally rare circa 1915 Providence Grays home uniform attributed to infielder Bunny Fabrique. Game-used uniforms from this early era of baseball are virtually unheard of, and this auction features an incredible pair (home and road) saved in the player's family for many years prior to our consignor obtaining them for his advanced collection of baseball memorabilia. The Providence Grays are one of the more recognizable minor league ballclubs, perhaps due to their association with Babe Ruth, who had a stint with the team during the 1914 season in which they claimed the International League championship. Bunny Fabrique did not measure up to Babe Ruth, but nonetheless, he enjoyed 16 seasons of minor league baseball along with 27 games over two professional seasons at the Major League level with the Brooklyn Robins. The offered lot includes a home jersey, pants, and cap. The pinstripe jersey features a simple encircled "P" logo on the left chest. Chainstitched in the collar is "Fabrique" alongside a Wright & Ditson manufacturers tag. Heavy use and wear are visible throughout. The jersey exhibits a few small imperfections, including a small hole in the right sleeve but heavy toning and staining in multiple areas, including the collar. The pants are similarly worn, including a few unrepaired holes in the legs. Also included is a cap, featuring simple blue piping meeting at the center, which exhibits heavy staining throughout. Despite these condition issues, this remains an incredible surviving uniform from this significant minor league team dating to the early days of baseball more than a century ago! Total: 3 items (jersey, pants, and cap).
In addition to the trio of items noted above, the lot also comes with an additional pair of period style pants. Showing moderate wear, the pants do not display any tagging, measuring approximately 31" long with a 44" waist.
