Description

Score a fairly tough jersey type with this 1970 Nate Colbert game-used San Diego Padres road jersey. The Padres inaugural MLB season came as part of the 1969 expansion and included the Montreal Expos, Kansas City Royals, and Seattle Pilots. San Diego's first star position player, the heavy-hitting Colbert joined the Padres for their 1969 inaugural season, contributing 24 bombs to the cause. Colbert had little in the way of success with his other four MLB teams but he crushed it during his six seasons in San Diego, setting a long-standing franchise record with 163 home runs.

Uniform items from the Padres' formative years are in short supply, and this attractive gamer is a handsome example, with condition described as "good-to-excellent" on the accompanying LOA. A nameplate inside the collar is embroidered with "N Colbert" in cursive lettering. Sewn on the left-front tail is a Wilson size "42" factory label, and the date "1970" is embroidered below. Colbert's number "17" is seen on the back and "San Diego" letter patches span the breast. A pleasing example from a second-year expansion franchise, this well-preserved jersey is worthy of a long look. Accompanying is a pair of stirrups, also worn by Colbert during the 1970 season.

Phil Wood LOA.
