Exceptionally rare circa 1915 Providence Grays road uniform attributed to infielder Bunny Fabrique. Game-used uniforms from this early era of baseball are virtually unheard of, and this auction features an incredible pair (home and road) saved in the player's family for many years prior to our consignor obtaining them for his advanced collection of baseball memorabilia. The Providence Grays are one of the more recognizable minor league ballclubs, perhaps due to their association with Babe Ruth, who had a stint with the team during the 1914 season in which they claimed the International League championship. Bunny Fabrique did not measure up to Babe Ruth, but nonetheless, he enjoyed 16 seasons of minor league baseball along with 27 games over two professional seasons at the Major League level with the Brooklyn Robins. The offered lot includes a road jersey, pants, and socks. The pinstripe jersey features "Providence" in dark blue felt across the chest. A Wright & Ditson manufacturers tag is present in the collar; no chainstitched name is present but we attribute it to Fabrique based on its origin. Heavy use and wear are visible throughout. The jersey remains in overall good condition but exhibits a few small imperfections and heavy toning throughout. The pants are similarly worn, with areas of heavy soiling throughout the legs. Also included are a pair of long team-issued socks, featuring alternating blue and white colors. They exhibit heavy wear, including holes in multiple areas. Despite these condition issues, this remains an incredible surviving uniform from this significant minor league team dating to the early days of baseball more than a century ago! Total: 3 items (jersey, pants, and socks).
