Description

Redbird rooters come home to roost with this magnificent Old Judge Coffee 1942 World’s Champions calendar topper. This captivating piece is a joyful juxtaposition of artwork, photographs and advertising, formatted with portrait insets of the 1942 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals lining the perimeter. Sized at 14-1/2” x 17-1/2”, this piece is the upper half of a wall calendar, neatly trimmed along the bottom edge. Centering the baseball player photographs, are a pair of crimson songbirds perched on a branch, as they greet the rising sun. Advertising copy at the bottom of the illustrated area reads “Two Champions, Cardinal Redbirds – 1942, Old Judge Coffee – since 1858”. Among those pictured are Hall of Famers Stan Musial, Enos Slaughter, and manager Billy Southworth. Also noted are stars Marty Marion, Walker Cooper, Harry Walker, Mort Cooper, Johnny Beazley, Harry Gumbert, and longtime Cardinals coach “Buzzy” Wares. This appealing calendar has a 1” tear off the top edge, which has been repaired with tape on the back. Other than that, signs of attrition are moderate, and this vintage advertising piece retains abundant display appeal.
