Scarce circa 1923 Reach baseball figural, originally designed as part of a larger piece, featuring the engraved lettering consistent with the official American League baseball of the period. The silver-plated baseball, which measures approximately fives inches in circumference, is also engraved "The Cork Center Baseball" alongside the "Official American League Ball" and "Pat. Aug. 31 - 1909." A Reach trademark sits atop a side panel. A hole is present at the base of the baseball where it would have attached to a set of baseball bats as part of the larger piece. The baseball features a number of imperfections, including indentations, that could potentially be improved upon by a skilled metalworker. Despite these flaws, it remains an attractive and relatively affordable figural display piece. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
