The Philadelphia Athletics were the defending World Series champions in 1931, having beaten their opponents, the Cardinals, the previous year. It seemed like they were going to continue their dominance over the Redbirds when their ace Lefty Grove defeated St. Louis in game one, 6 to 2, however the Cardinals fought back to win the series in seven games. This program from Game One at Sportsman's Park in St. Louis (GD-VG) has been neatly scored in pencil including Al Simmons home run in the 7th inning.
