One of only a handful of known examples, the 1 ¾ pin features the portrait of Frank “Ping” Brodie, one of the great sluggers of the dead ball era. Brodie was born in San Francisco and played many years with the San Francisco Seals, between stints with the White Sox, Athletics, and the Yankees, where he was Babe Ruth’s roommate.
The pin is from an event on August 27, 1927, at Recreation Park in San Francisco. It was sponsored by the city's Italian community to honor Brodie, a pioneering player for Italian Americans. He inspired Italian players who followed like Tony Lazzari, Frank Crosetti, and the DiMaggio brothers. The pin has a beautiful EX-MT+ front with some oxidation on the back. It is without its original printed backing paper.
