Lot # 1035: 1947 John Coombs Signed Typewritten "Most Thrilling Experience" Letter - 1910 World Series Victory - Full JSA

Presented is a dated February 25, 1947, Jack Coombs (d. 1957) typewritten and signed letter on Duke University letterhead where he served as head baseball coach. Measuring 8-1/2 x 11" with typical fold lines, this piece is part of an exceptional autograph collection offered in this auction, in which legends of the game recount their most thrilling memory. The Philadelphia Athletics star pitcher writes "I think that my greatest thrill was in the World Series of 1910 when I was practically a freshman." Coombs then relates how he escaped a bases loaded jam by striking out Joe Tinker and Johnny Kling to end a scoring threat. The black steel-tip fountain pen autograph is meticulously placed and is exceptionally strong in both strength and clarity. Despite three perimeter tape strips and three punched holes along the left boundary, this one-of-a-kind piece still presents admirably.
