Remarkable dated May 4, 1947, Ty Cobb (d.1961) handwritten and signed two page letter on personal letterhead (Nevada era) that dives deep into the Class of 1936 Hall of Famer's detailed mind. Measuring 7-1/4 x 10-1/4" with typical fold lines, this piece is part of an exceptional autograph collection offered in this auction, in which legends of the game recount their most thrilling memory. While ornery on the field, Cobb is far more composed when he writes "I have always stated my greatest thrill was in the seventeen inning game Detroit had with Phila. Athletics only about 6 days before end of 1907 season..." He continues "We were trailing two runs behind in our ninth inning, one man on base and two men out, Rube Waddell pitching, I happened to hit a home run which tied the score..." Cobb then continued to pinpoint game sequences 40 years prior during his rookie season! Executed with a blue steel-tip fountain pen. With exception to three slices of tape on three sides of page 2 and two patches of residue on the bottom of the page, this artifact still presents in overall excellent condition.
