Class of 1936 Hall of Famer! Historically significant Walter Johnson (d.1946) handwritten and signed letter on Dr. Pepper Bottling Company letterhead. Measuring 8-3/4 x 11" with fold lines, this piece is part of an exceptional autograph collection offered in this auction, in which legends of the game recount their most thrilling memory. The Washington Senators fireballer writes "The four innings I pitched in the Series with the Giants in 1924 were the most thrilling and exciting I have been in." Executed in blank ink, the writing is clear and legible. Despite paper loss/residue scattered throughout the perimeter and a series of punched holes along the left boundary, this heirloom is extremely attractive and an important remembrance of Washington D.C. baseball history.
