Lot # 1074: Lou Gehrig Cut Signature with Full JSA

A true legend is at hand with the presentation of this Lou Gehrig cut signature. Gehrig (HOF, d.1941) is credited with seventeen seasons of MLB play, all with the New York Yankees. In his first two seasons and his final season, Gehrig had a combined total of just seventy-five plate appearances. It was the fourteen seasons in between that astonish. From 1925 to 1938, Gehrig amassed 492 home runs and 1,981 RBI, and he finished with a .340 career batting average. Sized at 4" x 1-1/2", the offered cut is adhered to a 5-3/4" x 7-1/2" publication clipping of Gehrig crossing the plate during the 1937 All-Star Game, as noted by a handwritten identification at top. This indicates the offered signature is a late-life example, dating from the period 1937-1941. Both the cut and the clipping are attractive and well-suited for framed display.
