Lot # 1071: 1938 Ty Cobb Handwritten and Signed Letter with Mounted and Signed Cobb Newspaper Cut - (2) Total Ty Cobb Signatures with Full JSA

Presented is an outstanding handwritten and signed letter dating to 1938 from Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb. Also mounted to the letter is a signed newspaper image of Cobb, making this a particularly notable dual-signed Cobb item. Dated September 10, 1938, from Menlo Park, California, Cobb is responding to a fan's letter. He writes: "Dear Oliver: Your letter was misplaced and only today came across it - sorry - hope not too late - picture not so hot, looks like I was undershot, possibly lacking some teeth which happens not to be true. Sincerely, Ty Cobb." The picture Cobb refers to is the one he proceeded to sign. The letter measures 5.75 x 8.75-inches, with the smaller signed photograph measuring slightly larger than 3 x 3 inches. If desired, the photograph could be neatly cut away from the letter, leaving two independent signed items. As it stands now, this is a phenomenal dual-signed piece dating from a decade after Cobb's career ended.
