Lot # 1041: Hal Schumacher 1979 "Most Thrilling Experience" Signed Handwritten Letter Response with 1936 World Series Content About Pitching to Gehrig, DiMaggio, Dickey with Bases Loaded!

Over several decades, Mr. Oliver Compton of Bridgewater, New Jersey sent letters to multiple Major League players asking them to relate their most thrilling experience in baseball. This is just one of the many offered in this auction. Meticulously collected, the letters average Excellent condition or better.

Hal Schumacher signed handwritten letter on the 8x10 blank stationery dated March 9, 1979, from Mr. Compton requesting his response. Schumacher has responded on the back page of the letter. The pitcher writes, “… beating the New York Yankees 5-4 in ten innings during the 1936 Yankees - Giants World Series. Our club was down three games to 1 going into the fifth game of the series. I had a rough experience in my previous start, the second game. If we lost, the series was over. I worked my way out of several bases loaded jams with Gehrig, DiMaggio and Dickey coming to the plate and went on to pitch a complete 10 inning 5-4 victory.”
