Description

Over several decades, Mr. Oliver Compton of Bridgewater, New Jersey sent letters to multiple Major League players asking them to relate their most thrilling experience in baseball. This is just one of the many offered in this auction. Meticulously collected, the letters average Excellent condition or better.

George L. Kelly signed two-page letter on 8 ½ x 5 ½ “Hotel Commodore –  New York, NY” stationery dated Sept. 17, 1948. He mentions coming up with the Giants and watching the club set the all-time record winning 26 straight games. He writes, “a day I had in Chicago when I hit three home runs, a double and single in five times at bat….. Everyone gets a big bang out of playing in a World Series and I had the good fortune of playing in four in a row.

Signed “Sincerely George L. Kelly” (“9-10”) in blue ballpoint.

Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
