Description

Over several decades, Mr. Oliver Compton of Bridgewater, New Jersey sent letters to multiple Major League players asking them to relate their most thrilling experience in baseball. This is just one of the many offered in this auction. Meticulously collected, the letters average Excellent condition or better.

 

Les Bell signed letter on 7x9 blank stationery dated October 24th, 1979. He writes, “playing in the 1926 World Series was certainly the high point in my baseball career.” He relates how Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander came in for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 8th and 9th innings to protect a one-run lead. “I have always felt that Alex was about the greatest pitcher in baseball, and he certainly proved it in that situation.”
