Description

Over several decades, Mr. Oliver Compton of Bridgewater, New Jersey sent letters to multiple Major League players asking them to relate their most thrilling experience in baseball. This is just one of the many offered in this auction. Meticulously collected, the letters average Excellent condition or better.

This pair of letters from Joe Dugan have a lot of personality, including amusing Philadelphia content.

Joe Dugan signed one-page handwritten letter on the 7 x 10 ½ “Boston Red Sox - Fenway Park” stationery dated August 31, 1979. The infielder writes, “Well I remember that 1926 series, one of the best. Naturally Alexander was the hero, but don't forget he was one of the best. I rate him next to Walter Johnson.”

Signed “Sincerely, Joe Dugan” (“9-10”) in blue ballpoint.

 

Joe Dugan signed 2-page handwritten letter on the 7 x 10 ½ “Boston Red Sox - Fenway Park” stationery dated Sept. 14, 1979. The infielder writes, “My first five years in the majors were with the Phila. Athletics - the worst team in baseball and I was one of them although I had a few good years down there. Anyway I did not like (it) there. The salary was low + the fans were awful - They would boo a wake in Philly.”
