Description

Over several decades, Mr. Oliver Compton of Bridgewater, New Jersey sent letters to multiple Major League players asking them to relate their most thrilling experience in baseball. This is just one of the many offered in this auction. Meticulously collected, the letters average Excellent condition or better.

 

Waite Hoyt signed typewritten letter on 6 ½ x 10 ¼ “Waite C. Hoyt - Cincinnati, Ohio” stationery dated August 30, 1979. He writes of the 1926 World Series, “Alexander gave one of the greatest pitching exhibitions I ever saw. He walked Babe Ruth in the 9th inning, preferring not to give Babe a good pitch to swing at.” and the letter, which continues on to the back, is a detailed description of the game in which he mentions Rogers Hornsby, Babe Ruth, Tony Lazzeri and Grover Cleveland Alexander.
