Lot # 1079: Philadelphia Athletics "$100,000 Infield" Cut Signature Display with Eddie Collins, Frank Baker, Stuffy McInnis, and Jack Barry - JSA

In the early 1910s, the Philadelphia Athletics assembled a powerhouse infield that earned the moniker the "$100,000 Infield," combining two future Hall of Famers in Eddie Collins and Frank Baker with bonafide stars Stuffy McInnis and Jack Barry. The foursome earned their nickname for their immense value to the franchise along with the franchise's considerable investment in signing them to the team. Together, the quartet won four American League championships between 1910 and 1914 and three World Series titles in the same span. Offered here is a display paying homage to the infielders. Mounted upon an 8.5 x 11-inch album page is a periodical cutout of the four players with a description underneath. Four individual cut signatures of the players are then affixed underneath: John "Stuffy" McInnis upon a lined index card cut; Eddie Collins upon an unlined index card cut; Jack Barry "Athletics 1908-1915" and "Red Sox 1915-1919" upon a lined index card cut; and J. Franklin Baker "3rd base Philadelphia" and "American League BBC" upon a stationary cut. All signatures are executed flawlessly in fountain pen. This is an outstanding piece worthy of display!
