Description

Remarkable handwritten and signed letter from Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Honus Wagner dated February 13, 1947. This piece is part of an exceptional autograph collection offered in this auction, in which legends of the game recount their most thrilling memory. For Wagner, he starts with the date "2-13-47" and location "Carnegie Pa" at top of the lined stationery and proceeds to write: "Dear Oliver, In reply to your inquiry as to my greatest thrill I will make it short. You can guess the rest. 1901 with Pittsburgh Pirates I lead the league in hitting for the first time. Although I was the Champion Batter for 8 years the first one gave me the biggest thrill. You can guess the rest. Yours Truly, J. Honus Wagner, Pirates Coach 47." Executed in blue ink, the letter presents well, with minor bleed evident. A black-and-white cutout image of Wagner is affixed under his signature. A few light folds are present but do not detract from the overall display value. Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA.
