Lot # 1088: 1947 Rogers Hornsby Handwritten and Signed Letter - 1926 World Series Victory - Full JSA LOA

Interesting letter dated March 2nd, 1947, addressed to Mr. Rogers Hornsby – c/o Cleveland Indians Baseball Club - Tucson, Arizona. The 8.5 x 11 typewritten letter with fold lines from CK Compton Jr. is requesting that Hornsby relate his most thrilling experience in baseball such as “the one recently forwarded me by Grover Cleveland Alexander. ‘My biggest thrill came in the last game of the 1926 World Series when I went in with the bases full and struck out Lazzeri and then held them the rest of the game.’” Hornsby has responded at the bottom of the letter. “PS My answer is the same as Alexander as I happened to be the manager of the Cardinals that year.” With a big (“8-9”) Rogers Hornsby signature, the letter is a little rough around the edges as it looks like it has been removed from an album, with tape at the center on three sides and three-ring binder holes (GD).
