One of the "Boys of Summer" surfaces, with the offering of this Jim Gilliam single-signed baseball. A veteran of the Negro League and a World Series champion with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955, Gilliam was a solid second baseman who won three more championships with the Dodgers after they moved to Los Angeles. The offered ball is a clean Jim Catfish Hunter All-Star model, signed neatly by Gilliam on the east panel. While still serving as a coach for the Dodgers, Gilliam died in 1978, at the relatively young age of forty-nine.
Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA.
