Description

Over several decades, Mr. Oliver Compton of Bridgewater, New Jersey sent letters to multiple Major League players asking them to relate their most thrilling experience in baseball. This is just one of the many offered in this auction. Meticulously collected, the letters average Excellent condition or better.

 

Clark Griffith signed typewritten letter on 8 ½ x 11 “Washington American League Base Ball Club - Washington, DC” stationery dated April 14, 1948. The stationery has been removed from an album, as evidenced by three binder holes, as well as evidence of paper removal on the reverse. There is also a Clark Griffith newspaper caricature attached to the right corner.

The Hall of Fame executive writes, “The most thrilling experience of my long baseball career was when the ball bounced over Linstrom's head in the World Series with the Giants and gave us the World Championship in 1924.”
