Football-Fan-in-Chief Richard Nixon comes into focus with this 1971 Washington Redskins photograph. Sized at 12" x 9", this borderless photograph is stamped on the reverse with a White House credit, and the date "11 NO 23". Written notations on the reverse suggest this shot was used for publication. The setting was a Redskins practice as they were prepping for a visit to newly opened Veterans Stadium, for a game against the Philadelphia Eagles on 11/28. Seen with Nixon are head coach George Allen and quarterback Billy Kilmer, who were both in their first season with Washington. The Redskins hadn't made it to the postseason since 1945, and perhaps Nixon was good luck, as they finished their 1971 campaign with a record of 9-4-1, good for a Wild Card Playoff berth. More likely it was Allen's capable direction. A few light creases are noted near the left and right edges, but otherwise this vintage photograph remains clean and sturdy, with nice gloss and abundant display appeal.
