Description

Graded 5.0 by PSA. Victimizing countless pitchers for a total of 714 home runs, Babe Ruth was, far and away, the sporting world's single biggest draw. Lured out of retirement to "coach" the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1938, Ruth remained a gate attraction via his batting practice exploits and playing appearances in exhibitions. With his record home run total still safe from challenge, Ruth launched one more in a major league uniform. The offered scorecard was issued at Albany's Hawkins Stadium for the July 25, 1938 game in which "The Bambino" hit an epic blast in the very first inning and then walked twice before leaving the game in the fifth inning. Issued to one of a record 11,724 in attendance that afternoon, this tri-fold Albany Senators cover program is printed on thick stock and features advertisements for local merchants. The visiting Dodgers lineup featured Ruth in the cleanup spot at first base and, batting sixth, teammate and arch-enemy Leo Durocher. Despite Ruth's clout, the Dodgers were felled 7-6 by the home town squad that day. The PSA encapsulation notes off-white/white pages with a scorecard filled in pencil. "Babe Ruth's Last Home Run Against Organized Pitching" is also confirmed on the flip. Potentially, the first such graded example to hit the auction marketplace!
