Lot # 933: 1909 Everybody’s Magazine “Training with the New York Giants” Custom Bound Guide with Christy Mathewson

A popular turn-of-the-century periodical was the source for this 1909 “Training with the New York Giants” guide. This antique guide houses an excerpt taken from Everybody’s Magazine, dated “June 1909, Vol. XX, No. 6”. The pages are numbers 739 through 750, and feature plenty of photographs, including star players Bridwell, Bresnahan, Tenney, and Meyers. Mentioned prominently are the Giants’ biggest star Christy Mathewson, and no-nonsense manager John McGraw. This complete spread by reporter James Hopper is custom bound in a professional manner, with a handsome leather cover and twine binding. The interior pages are lightly stained along the margins, but they remain supple, with bold text and distinct photographs.
