Lot # 942: 1920s Babe Ruth All America Athletic Underwear with Tag and Factory Box

For the Ruth collector that has it all, we present this 1920s Babe Ruth All American Athletic Underwear garment with tag and factory box. Proof that you could sell anything with Ruth’s name and face on it, the box is printed on the lid with “Babe Ruth All American Athletic Underwear, The Champion Nine”. The front panel features a Ruth facsimile signature, and boxes stamped with “9TB” for style, and “50” for size. Also stated is the quantity “1/2 Dozen”. The lid shows age-appropriate wear, the corners on the front-end panel are separated, and someone has written “Kitchen Curtains” directly above the portrait photograph of the smiling Ruth. The box bottom tray is solid, with moderate wear. The garment is a one-piece type, with shorts-level leg openings. Located inside the collar is a label with another Ruth facsimile signature and “Size 46”. The buttons are all present and accounted for and are securely attached. Positioned on the top button is crisp, clean tag with facsimile signature and the legend “Guaranteed Athletic Underwear”. The back of this “onesie” is printed in part with “Babe Ruth Rip-Proof Guaranteed”, along with a patent notification. This garment appears to unused, though sporadic age toning is evident.
