Description

Bag an extremely scarce relic, when you set your sights on this 1924 Walter Johnson vs. Babe Ruth All-Star Baseball Game souvenir score card. A rare treasure to be sure, this century-old souvenir was issued for an exhibition contest at the Brea Bowl, in Brea, California. The date was October 31, 1924, and it was all treats for the fans, as Johnson and Ruth were the head men for the opposing squads. Ruth was the biggest name in the game, and he had led the New York Yankees to their first of many World Series championships in 1923. Johnson countered by leading the Washington Senators to their first and only World Series championship in 1924, just three weeks prior to this barnstorming game. This long-ago All-Star Game was staged by the Anaheim Elks No. 1345 Lodge, and they could do no better than having Ruth and Johnson as the main attractions for their event. Likely the result of removal from an album, the back cover exhibits surface paper loss across the top. Otherwise, this antique score card remains crisp, clean and very attractive.
