A ballplayer has to start somewhere, and for "Gabby" Hartnett it was with the Worcester Boosters. The Hall of Fame backstop is seen here in his 1921 Boosters uniform, in this 3-1/8" x 5-1/8" photograph. The young catcher didn't need much time in the minors. His talent was such that after a single season in the Eastern League, he was picked up by the Chicago Cubs for the 1922 season. After nineteen solid seasons with the Cubs and a final MLB season with the New York Giants, Hartnett was considered the best catcher in National League history, until Johnny Bench came along. Despite a detached but included corner at the top-right, this antique photograph remains appealing, showing Vg details.
