Description

Return to a glorious low tech era in baseball's past, with the examination of this 1931 New York Giants sterling silver season pass. With the likes of Hall of Famers Mel Ott, Bill Terry, Travis Jackson, and Freddy Lindstrom in the lineup, the 1931 Giants were well worth the price of admission. This fascinating hunk of metal allowed the holder to do exactly that for all of the season's home games at the storied Polo Grounds.

Outfitted with a hanging hoop on the top edge, this whimsical pass depicts a trio of bleacher bums in high relief, with clouds billowing in the background. Titled "Fanned Out" at top, this scene demonstrates the trio's exasperation during a game in progress, while suggesting their devotion to the club at the same time. Spanning the area below these diehards, is the legend "Giants 1931, Chas. A. Stoneham Pres.".

Engraved on the back is the name of the original owner "John Coffey", and the number "86". Seen below the engraving is a hallmark for the makers of this delight, which reads "Lambert Bros. N.Y. Sterling Silver". Considering the relief design, and the fact that this piece is nearly one hundred years old, condition is surprisingly pleasing, with fantastic detail integrity, an age-appropriate natural patina, and only the slightest touches of wear.
