Description

Baseball was going through a major change, when this 1947 Negro World Series Game 1 full ticket proof was printed. Jackie Robinson was coming down the stretch of his game-changing MLB rookie season at the time, and would become the first black player to appear in the MLB World Series a couple of weeks later. Negro League stars would soon be joining MLB teams, and the Negro World Series would come to an end with the 1948 edition, as attention shifted away from the Negro Leagues. The 1947 NWS was contested by the New York Cubans, champions of the Negro National League, and the Cleveland Buckeyes, champions of the Negro American League. Some of the top players involved were Al Smith, Sam Jethroe, Quincy Trouppe, Webbo Clarke, and Sam Jones for the Buckeyes, and Minnie Minoso, Ray Noble, Pat Scantlebury, and Lino Donoso for the Cubans. Encapsulated by PSA with an EX-MT (MK) grade, this proof ticket is the highest graded Game 1 example, as "1 of 1" at this level, with none higher.
