Lot # 1567: 1962 New York Mets Inaugural Season Home Opener Scorecard & Full Ticket - PSA Fair 1.5

A rough baseball beginning is remembered, with the presentation of this pair of gameday souvenirs from the New York Mets 1962 inaugural season home opener. The Mets got off to a rocky start in their first season of MLB play, losing their first nine games. Things didn't get any better as the season progressed, and the Mets finished the 1962 season with a dreadful record of 40-120. Featured here are a full ticket and a program from their first ever home game, which was played at the Polo Grounds on April 13, 1962. The Mets put up a good fight in this game but fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 4-3. PSA has encapsulated the ticket with a grade of Fr 1.5. The program is clean and attractive, with a solid spine, meriting an Ex rating. The scoring grids are unused, with several Hall of Famers listed on the rosters, including Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski for the Pirates, and Rich Ashburn and Gil Hodges for the Mets, along with wizened manager Casey Stengel and coach Rogers Hornsby. Pictured on the front cover of the program, is the Mets "New 1963 Home", billed as "Flushing Meadows Stadium", which would actually open in 1964 as Shea Stadium.
