Description

From the mystical land of "ain't seen one of these before" comes this extremely rare 1950s New York Giants three-dimensional baseball pennant. This full-size pennant boasts an imaginative design that would have made it a top-shelf souvenir at the time of issue. Most period fans would have deemed it too costly, so surviving examples are quite rare. Only one other example of this unique pennant has ever been offered, and the price realized was near the top end of pennant purchase history. Stationed at the wide end is a captivating, bearded mascot with a formidable physique. This giant is capped with a die cut hat overlay that protrudes a bit above the top edge of the pennant. Formatted in raised felt, this colossal batter has plastic bubble eyeballs, and he is holding an actual wood bat in his left hand, which has been sawn in half down the length to be inserted through slits in the material. A plastic baseball is absent from its intended position between the Giants' right-hand thumb and forefinger, where the insertion pinhole is seen. The original tassels remain securely attached at the wide end, and the bold lettering is also made of raised felt. A "Giants in 48" pin has been added near the point, which has been eroded to an irregular end. A "Made by Collegiate of Ames" factory label remains in place on the back of the wide end, indicating "Felt Used in this Product is 70% Wool 30% Cotton." With deference to the eroded point and moderate fading of the mascot appliqué colors, this exceedingly rare treasure shows Ex+ details. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
