The '64 Series featured the St. Louis Cardinals versus the New York Yankees, with the Cardinals holding the home field advantage. After six hard fought games, Cardinals manager Johnny Keane delivered the quote "Something had to give" before Game 7 on October 15th, and it wasn't going to be his ace Bob Gibson doing the giving. The last time the Yankees had lost back-to-back World Series, was also the first and only time, way back in 1921-1922. To date, the Cardinals had never lost a Game 7, and despite Mantle belting his record 18th World Series home run, the Redbirds prevailed by a score of 7-5. Series MVP Gibson took the mound on two days rest and hung tough to help the Cardinals clinch their seventh championship.
