Description

Big postseason first steps were taken at the start of the 1951 World Series. Get in step with this historically significant event by laying claim to this seriously tough 1951 World Series Game 1 ticket stub. It was a jubilant occasion for New York City fans as the participating clubs in this Subway Series, were the Yankees and the Giants. Game 1 was contested at Yankee Stadium, on October 4. Taking the field for their first taste of postseason play were Yankees rookie Mickey Mantle and Giants rookie Willie Mays, in their World Series debuts. The Yankees were in the midst of a record five consecutive World Series championships, from 1949 to 1953. This was also the final World Series for Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio, who passed the centerfield torch to Mantle when the Fall Classic concluded. The Giants needed a special playoff against the Brooklyn Dodgers to get into the 1951 World Series and Bobby Thomson made sure they got there, with his dramatic Shot Heard 'Round the World home run. Though Game 1 went to the Giants by a score of 5-1, they would win only one more game in this Series, while the Yankees continued baseball's greatest stretch of championship glory. PSA has encapsulated this important ticket stub with a favorable grade of EX 5, making it "1 of 10" graded at this level, with just 1 higher.
