Description

Mark a major milestone for Hall of Fame slugger Frank Robinson with the acquisition of this September 13, 1971 Baltimore Orioles full ticket. Playing at home in venerable Memorial Stadium, the Orioles faced the Detroit Tigers on this day. Though the Tigers won this game by a score of 10-5, it was an inconsequential victory, as the O's finished the regular season 101-57, 12 games ahead of the Tigers in American League East Division. Robinson made this game truly memorable by belting the 500th home run of his illustrious career in the bottom of the ninth, off Tigers pitcher Fred Scherman. This historic blast made Robinson the 11th member of the 500 Home Run, assuring his first ballot election to the Hall of Fame. PSA has encapsulated this milestone full ticket with a grade of NM 7. This game was actually the second game of a doubleheader. Robinson had hit his 499th career home run in the first inning of Game 1, which was a 9-1 Orioles win. The days attendance was 13,292, but by time Robinson hit number 500, the crowd had reportedly shrunk to less than 1,000 fans. PSA's Population Report notes the offered ticket as "1 of 2" at the NM 7 grading tier, with just 1 rated higher.
