A scarce AAFC relic surfaces, with the offering of this 1946 San Francisco 49ers program. Prior to merging into the NFL in 1950, the 49ers competed in the AAFC for their first four seasons, from 1946-1949. Related items from this long-defunct league are generally tough to come by, and this crisp program is certainly one of the finer examples.
This handsome gameday souvenir was issued for the 49ers first ever game at Kezar Stadium. Played on September 1, 1946, this preseason contest saw San Francisco take on the Chicago Rockets, for a 34-14 win, in the franchise's second ever game. The rip-roaring front cover depicts a rootin' tootin', six-gun shootin' mascot in a vibrant scene of celebration, against a bright white background. The spine is solid, the pages are supple, and this well-preserved program merits a solid Ex rating.
