Description

Recall Jack Nicklaus's first major tournament win, with this signed Sports Illustrated cover in framed display. As this professionally mounted piece is sealed on the back and matted on the front, it is undetermined as to whether this is a complete magazine or a cover only. Printed at top, are the date June 25, 1962, and the caption "The Open: How Nicklaus Beat Palmer". We'll spare you the suspense, by relating Nicklaus beat Palmer by three strokes in an 18-hole playoff. This 1962 U.S. Open was Nicklaus' first ever PGA Tour win, and silmultaneously his first victory in one of the four majors. He was just 22 years old at the time, making him the youngest player to win the open since Bobby Jones did it at the age of 21, in 1923. Nicklaus has signed boldly on the field at left, and the display presents handsomely. A white sticker at bottom-left appears to have been placed there to cover a mailing address, and a silver sticker at bottom right is from a previous sale.
