Description

Babe Ruth collectors get an eyeful, with this selection of (9) 1940 Ruth personal vacation photographs. These candid snapshots were taken during a Ruth family excursion out west, to tour the great states of Colorado and Utah. Ruth is seen in most of these photographs, along with his wife Claire, a man who appears to be a tour guide, and some four-footed friends. A group of four 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" photographs are mounted on an album page, with tape on the corners. Handwritten notations on the white borders read "Colorado 1940", "Seven Falls 1940", and "Taken by Dorothy", a reference to his eldest daughter. The other five photographs have been removed from an album, and album paper and adhesive residue cover the reverse sides only, while clear tape covers the corners of the obverses. These five 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" deckle edge photos bear the written notations " Ogden Utah 1940", "Pike's Peak 1940, 14,000 feet", "Will Rogers Memorial, Cheyenne Mt. Colorado 1940", and "Seven Falls 1940 Colorado". All (9) photographs remain attractive, with authentic period appeal, and moderate wear. Accompanying is a Letter of Provenance signed by Ruth's granddaughter, Linda Ruth Tosetti.
