Description

Focus on a familiar image with this 1950s Jackie Robinson 5" x 7" promotional photograph. This batting pose image is familiar, as it is the shot taken by Barney Stein used for Robinson's 1950 Bowman baseball card. While this classic depiction of Robinson from the peak of his MLB career has been encountered in various size photographs from the original period, this same period 5" x 7" example is potentially unique as a survivor for this size, with the addition of a facsimile signature and "Best Wishes" salutation at bottom-left. A horizontal fold crease spans the area just below Robinson's belt, and along with showing typical age-appropriate signs of attrition, this photograph stands at the GD level. Both the front and back are devoid of source credits or a copyright, and the consensus opinion is this rare photograph was most likely team issued to satisfy a fan's souvenir request.
