Presented is a superb relic of organized professional baseball in the South — a circa 1950s Montgomery Rebels wool game jacket. The Rebels had an eight-decade history in Montgomery, Alabama, during which time they participated in several different organized minor and semi-professional leagues and served as an affiliate to several different Major League ballclubs (St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox, and Detroit Tigers). The condition of the offered example is magnificent. It features bold colors, including a bright emblem on the left chest, and sturdy, well-constructed wool. While no tagging is present in this jacket, it is consistent with other examples in the marketplace dating to this era. Light crazing is present on the leather trim of the two pockets near the waist. This is a rarely seen game-ready example that would be at home in even the most advanced collection of memorabilia.
