Description

Ben Chapman's accomplishments as a player are overshadowed the role he played in 1947 as manager of the Phillies, antagonizing Jackie Robinson with racial epithets and getting fired for unsportsmanlike conduct for embarrassing his team. He never managed in the majors again. His career ended in 1946, and this bat is confirmed by ordering records as being ordered in the 1953 season. In 1953, he managed the Tampa Smokers of the Florida International League. Uncracked with evidence of heavy use, the very faded player number on the knob is no longer legible. The handle, once taped, now displays only the ghost of the tape application.

Full LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA.
