Lot # 1211: 1928 Multi-Sport Champions Photograph with Babe Ruth, Wiessmuller, Bobby Jones & Gene Tunney

Kings from the wide world of sports form a dapper crew, in this 1928 news service photograph. A newspaper clipping adhered to the back credits this 8" x 10" photo to International Newsreel. The date "Jan 7, 1928" is stamped on the clipping, and the written date "1928" is located between the clipping and a five-digit identification number at top. Seen on the front are regal champions "Babe" Ruth, Gene Tunney, Johnny Wiessmuller, Bill Cook, Bill Tilden, Bobby Jones, Freddy Spencer, and Charley Winter. All of these dapper gentlemen are nattily attired in tuxedos, for a dinner hosted by the Madison Square Garden Club at the Hotel Commodore. The backer suffers areas of loss at the upper corners, and the photograph remains attractive despite creasing at right, and minor bits of surface paper loss at bottom-left.
