Third to join the 500 Home Rub Club after "Babe" Ruth and Jimmie Foxx, Mell Ott livens up the scene with this circa 1938 original news service photograph. It wasn't just about clout with "Master Melvin", who led the NL is walks six times, and was a model of consistency with a .304 lifetime batting average. Getting on base at career clip of .414, gave Ott the chance to score often, and he topped the 100 mark in runs scored nine times. Most surprisingly, Ott walked nearly twice as much as he struck out, a rare feat for such a prodigious home run hitter. The New York Giants chief source of power for eighteen consecutive seasons, Ott showed off his determination, with a steely-eyed glare in this 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" batting pose photograph. Belying its considerable age, this octogenarian photo presents VG-EX+ details, with deference to some adhesive residue on the back, above the handwritten notations "Ott - 3B Giants 1938". Located below the written editorial notations, is a Sun Staff Photo credit stamp. Ott's image is distinct, and the surface gloss remains strong, making this antique photograph a great candidate for framed display.
