If a fireplug had arms and legs, and wore a baseball cap, it would resemble Hall of Famer "Hack" Wilson. The stout slugger is recalled, with this original 1929 Associated Press Hack Wilson news service photograph. Sized at 6x8, this shot captured Wilson in a classic pose, following through on his mighty cut during batting practice. The Chicago Cubs won the NL pennant in 1929, with Wilson and fellow Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby serving as their biggest power suppliers. Both legends belted 39 homers that year, while Wilson topped Hornsby in the RBI department, 159-149. The following season, Wilson famously set the still standing single-season RBI record, with a staggering total of 191. Seen on the back, are an AP disclaimer stamp, and an AP credit blurb dated 9/3/29. Wilson's name is circled in the text, which reads in part "Hack Wilson center fielder for the Chicago Cubs, who is one of the principal reasons for the Cubs being where they are in the National League pennant race.". PSA/DNA has encapsulated this ancient photograph, with a (Type I Authentic) designation.
