Lot # 1053: 1923 and 1949 Bill Veeck Sr. and Bill Veeck Jr. Signed Letter and Contract Trio Including Zeb Terry Contract

Get down to the business of baseball, with this Bill Veeck Sr. and Bill Veeck Jr. signed trio. Baseball was the family business for the Veeck's and several MLB clubs were the better for it. Populating this offering, are two typed letters signed and a contract for Chicago Cubs star second baseman of long ago, Zeb Terry. All three of these paper items remain crisp and attractive, and the signatures are satisfying examples.

January 6, 1923 Bill Veeck Sr. typed letter signed on Chicago National League Ball Club letterhead. This ancient correspondence served as the cover letter for a contract between the Chicago Cubs and Zeb Terry, for his 1923 services. Veeck Sr. mentions a "slight increase" in the first paragraph, which apparently did not sway Terry, who decided to retire from baseball in the Spring of 1923, in order to try his hand in the real estate business, in the Los Angeles market.

January 5, 1923 Chicago Cubs National League Uniform Player's Contract for Zeb Terry in the amount of $6,700, a decent amount for the period. Veeck Sr. has signed as team president, while Terry did not sign, as detailed above.

July 7, 1949 Bill Veeck Jr. typed letter signed on Cleveland Indians letterhead. This letter is addressed to a Washington D.C. fan is response to a card received by Veeck. Always the promoter, Veeck states in the content, "I am enclosing a yellow card which lists the souvenir items of the Cleveland Indians. Some of the novelties, I thought, might be of interest to you.".
