Lot # 1480: 1951 National League "Shot Heard 'Round the World" Dodgers at Giants Tie-Breaker Game 3 Program

Recall one of the most dramatic moments in baseball history, with the viewing of this 1951 New York Giants program. Reporting in crisp Ex+ condition, this vintage program represents the deciding Game 3 of a special tie-breaker series between the Giants and crosstown rivals the Brooklyn Dodgers, to decide the National League pennant winner. Both teams finished the regular season with a record of 96-58, prompting this three-game playoff series, which ended in the Giants favor, thanks to Bobby Thomson's walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the 9th, on October 3rd at the Polo Grounds. Famously known as the "Shot Heard 'Round the World", this pennant-clinching game sent the Giants to the World Series, where they faced yet another New York City squad, the Yankees. The scoring grids are unused, with the only handwritten entries being the names of the day's starting pitchers, with Newcombe for the Dodgers and Maglie for the Giants. Many great stars are listed in the lineups including Giants rookie Willie Mays, who would be named NL Rookie of the Year, and Jackie Robinson for the Dodgers. Hall of Famer George Kell has signed neatly on the front cover.
