A great piece of baseball history surfaces with the presentation of this Pittsburgh Pirates Follow Me to Forbes Field metal street sign. A "Follow Me!" prompt is delivered by the Smiling Buc mascot, which occupies the top-left quadrant of this heavy 24" x 24" sign, followed by the destination "To.. Forbes Field." This amusing, eye-patched buccaneer adorned Pirates-related items from 1958-1967, dating this sign to that 10-year period. Seen at the bottom corners are the abbreviations "PGH" at left and "DPS" at right, standing for the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety. An array of 17 mounting hole punches compensates for the considerable weight of this vintage sign. The degree of wear is considerable, suggesting lengthy service time for this outdoor sign, perhaps as much as the full window of 10 years for the mascot type. The numerous paint scratches and small patches of oxidized abrasions serve to support the authentic vintage nature and lengthy public service use of this captivating sign, which is painted yellow on the back. Mother Nature did her worst, and this hardy survivor came out still smiling! You'll be smiling too, when you score this scarce Pittsburgh Pirates relic, blessed with fantastic graphics! The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot.
