A total of (28) signatures are counted on this 1968 Boston Red Sox team-signed OAL/Cronin baseball. The Sox awoke from their "Impossible Dream" 1967 season, to post a respectable 86-76 record in '68, good for a fourth-place finish in the final season before division play began in 1969. It was the "Year of the Pitcher", and slugger Carl Yastrzemski won his third batting crown with a .301 average, the lowest mark to ever lead the AL. Yaz has signed on the sweet spot of the offered ball, and he is joined by fellow Hall of Famers Bobby Doerr and Dick Williams. Other notables are Elston Howard, Reggie Smith, Sparky Lyle and Ken Harrelson, who enjoyed a career year, leading the Junior Circuit with 109 RBI.
The complete list of signers is:
Sweet spot: Carl Yastrzemski (HOF);
North panel: Jerry Moses, Reggie Smith, Jerry Stephenson, George Thomas, Ray Culp;
South panel: Dick Williams (HOF, manager), Luis Alvarado, Darrell Johnson (coach), Juan Pizarro, Floyd Robinson, Lee Stange;
East panel: Bobby Doerr (HOF, coach), Darrell Brandon, Russ Gibson, Dalton Jones, Ken Harrelson, Sparky Lyle;
West panel: Bill Landis, Mike Andrews, Jose Tartabull, Dave Moorehead, Elston Howard (d.1980), Gary Bell.
