Description

The light of champions shines out, with the presentation of this 1963 Quartite Creative Corp. New York Yankees chalkware batter statue lamp, with lampshade. With the Mickey Mantle led Yankees coming off consecutive World Series championships in 1961-1962, any area kid would have wanted this figural lamp on his nightstand. This charmer stands nearly 15" tall, on a 5" diameter base, and the height from the base to the top of the lampshade is 30". Often when this lamp is offered, the shade is a generic replacement. In this case, the shade is original, printed with five red, white and blue Yankees logos. The securely attached plug has been tested, and the lamp works as intended. Impressed into the back of the base, is the legend "Quartite Creative Corp. MCMLXIII", with the Roman numerals representing the date 1963. A few scattered chips on the statue are fairly unobtrusive, with the most prominent located on the brim of the cap, the left knee, and the bottom edge of the base. Given the fragile nature of the shade, it has held up surprisingly well, showing light to moderate wear, including a short, jagged crack on the largest of the logos. All things considered, this hardy survivor reports in remarkable condition, with tremendous period authentic appeal.
